Recruitment Process

Please read the following steps to understand more about how the recruitment process operates, from starting your job search, right through to your first day teaching in the UK.

Step 1 – Submit your details

Once you’ve registered an interest to find out more about teaching in the UK, we will get in touch to set up an appropriate time and date to interview and discuss your plans.

Step 2 – Interview with Academics

Depending on your location, we will look to set up either a face to face, skype or telephone interview. The interview will give us a greater understanding of your teaching experiences and expectations. We will provide you with honest and impartial advice throughout to help you understand the entire recruitment process without any hidden surprises. To help us work as effectively as possible for you, we welcome your honesty and any questions you have in return.

Step 3 – Interview with a school

Following on from the interview, we will prepare a detailed profile on your individual requirements and preferences. Based on this specific information consultants will start approaching you with appropriate teaching positions suited to your personality and skill set. The school interview could be conducted over Skype or telephone but also face to face if you have been selected to travel to the UK and meet a variety of schools in person at one of our A-Day events. A-Day is an invaluable opportunity that allows you to teach in a British school before accepting a position.

Step 4 – Securing a position and the relocation process

Once you have secured a position, the international team and your consultant will guide you through the relocation phase. This includes processing your visa, booking a flight, assistance with securing long term accommodation and introducing you to other teachers also working with Academics. You will also be required to provide original compliance documentation which will allow you to take up a teaching position in the UK. This includes teaching qualifications, police checks, teaching references and passport/visa amongst other documents.

Step 5 – Arrival in the UK

You will be provided with an airport pickup upon arrival to the UK and taken to pre-booked temporary accommodation. Academics also run an important induction day for all our new teachers just prior to school starting. The induction is a highly informative day giving further insight into the UK curriculum, classroom management techniques and completing any final compliance document checks. There is then a social event in the evening allowing teachers to meet new friends and un-wind together.

Step 6 – Start teaching!
